OEACP Premio ASICOM

The Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) has been chosen as a candidate for the 2021 ASICOM Awards -University of Oviedo-, in the Institution category, for its promotion of South-South and Triangular Cooperation thanks to the specialized headquarters in this concept inaugurated in Malabo two years ago.

This office, which was approved thanks to more than eight years of negotiations by the Ambassador of Equatorial Guinea in Brussels, Carmelo Nvono-Ncá, allows the 79 member countries of the OACPS to share knowledge, technology, health, dialogues necessary for the coordination of regional policies and other government actions. In addition, South-South and Triangular Cooperation offers great potential for agriculture and rural development in developing countries as it makes it possible to take advantage of the experiences of Caribbean countries and provide solutions to the challenges of other States.

Ambassador Nvono-Ncá has been in charge of personally informing the Secretary General of the OEACP in Brussels, Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti, in a meeting held by both this week. The proposal for this candidacy for the ASICOM Awards reflects the undoubted growth that the OACPS is experiencing, thanks to countries such as the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, which has been able to get involved and commit at the highest level to allow the development of new policies and strategies of South-South and Triangular Cooperation. The awarding of the prestigious ASICOM Awards would undoubtedly be a perfect recognition of all the efforts invested in strengthening cooperation between countries of the South.

The OACPS is an ideal candidate for the ASICOM Awards, since in its work it will prioritize the values ​​of peace, solidarity and the unity of its Member States. Among the many objectives are the sustainable development of its Member States and their gradual integration into the global economy, the coordination of their activities within the framework of the association agreements with the European Union and the consolidation and solidarity between the Member States and the democratization of their political systems.

In addition, in pursuit of its objectives, the OACPS pays special interest in innovation, new alliances, knowledge exchange, strengthening its intra-regional cooperation and the priorities of the 2030 global agenda of its member states.
