Bioko is the most frequented island as it is home to the capital, Malabo, formerly known as Santa Isabel. The island of Bioko includes two provinces: Bioko Norte and Bioko Sur, the difference of which is a slight change in temperature.

Río Muni is the mainland and the largest territory in the whole country. Its administrative capital is located in the city of Bata and consists of four provinces: Litoral, Wele-Nzas, Kié-Ntem and Centro Sur.
