France closed last Friday its last cycle of oral allegations before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the United Nations’ highest judicial body, within the case opposing them to Equatorial Guinea.
During his indictment, during France presented his conclusions, the agent for the French delegation, François Alabrune, asked the International Court of Justice to “dismiss all the proceedings instituted by Equatorial Guinea” .
The French court initiated this case in 2016 against the vice-president of Equatorial Guinea, for which he was sentenced last February to a fine of 30 million euros, in the case called “ill-gotten gains” .
With this request and this conviction, France did not respect the diplomatic status of the building which houses the Embassy of Equatorial Guinea in Paris and which France had attempted to embark.
It is expected that the decision of the magistrates of this high court of the UN will be announced in the coming months.
