Cooperación en el Sector Marítimo port

In a meeting held this Tuesday, April 9, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, Miguel Oyono Ndong Mifumu, held a fruitful meeting on cooperation in the Maritime Sector with the Envoy of the Ministry of Transport of Singapore , Bernard Lim, at the Embassy of Equatorial Guinea in Brussels. This meeting marks the second time in a period of six months that both sides exchanged views to strengthen their bilateral relations.

The Republic of Singapore extended its gratitude to the Republic of Equatorial Guinea for the support received during its candidacy to obtain a seat on the Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for the period 2024-2025. This support was crucial to Singapore’s success in the elections for the Thirty-Third Session of the IMO Assembly, held in London on December 6, 2023.

In the first meeting, which took place on October 2, 2023, Singapore expressed its interest in establishing cooperation points in the Maritime Sector with Equatorial Guinea in areas such as improving the management of the port system and the training of human resources. In the last hearing, Ambassador Oyono Ndong Mifumu reiterated the need for support in the formation of human capital and in the fight against the illicit flagging of ships, a significant problem facing Equatorial Guinea. In addition, cooperation was discussed to mitigate the effects of toxic discharges to maritime space, vital for the protection of the environment.

These meetings underline the continued commitment of both countries to deepen cooperation in the Maritime Sector and work together on global maritime challenges, thus reinforcing their role in the international framework of the IMO.
